For Silvia, Norman, and Ronald, supporting Mulgrave has always been about more than giving, it has been about participating. From volunteering at school events and serving as an MVP representative to supporting the Momentum Annual Fund, they have embraced every opportunity to strengthen the community that has shaped their child's experience.

Momentum Annual Fund 2025-2026

Proposed Projects

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community and, in particular, the remarkable participation of Mulgrave families in this year's Momentum Annual Fund, we are delighted to move forward with a number of meaningful investments in our school.

Every gift, regardless of size or designation, contributes to a collective impact that strengthens the educational experience for every student. Because of your support, we are able to approve projects that will enrich learning, enhance our campus, and provide our students and teachers with inspiring spaces and resources for years to come.

While we are still finalising the complete allocation of this year's funds, we have prioritized several capital initiatives that will be completed during the 2026–2027 school year.

Our six Momentum funds raised the following amounts: 

Momentum Update

As we close out the 2025-26 academic year, we are delighted to celebrate another remarkable year for the Momentum Fund and the extraordinary generosity of our Mulgrave community.

This year, 686 individual donors came together to raise an incredible $2,353,451 in support of the people, places and programmes that make Mulgrave such a special place to learn.

Our annual Grade Challenge also reached a new milestone, with 63% of Mulgrave families making a gift to Momentum this year, our highest participation rate ever and another significant step forward in building a lasting culture of philanthropy across our community.

This year's jigsaw puzzle theme captured that spirit perfectly. Every puzzle piece represented a family who chose to participate, reminding us that every gift, regardless of size, helps complete the bigger picture. The giant puzzle became a hit with students and families on campus, and we're already designing next year’s puzzle to keep the philanthropic fun going!

The race for the Grade Challenge title went down to the wire. Grade 7 emerged victorious with an exceptional 89% family participation, just ahead of PK4 at 88%. The PK4 group effort was too impressive not to celebrate, so in addition to our Grade 7s, we'll recognise them with a special runner-up prize when they return as Kindergarten students next year.

Our Staff & Faculty Donor Challenge also reached record levels, with an outstanding 91% participation!

Congratulations to the Junior School, who claimed first place in the Divisional Challenge with an incredible 96% of staff and teachers making a donation, a wonderful and fitting send-off for departing Junior School Principal, Karyn Mitchell.

The biggest story, however, is the momentum we're building together. Eight of our fifteen grades surpassed last year's PK3 winning participation rate of 61%. With continued growth like this, we're edging ever closer to achieving something we've never seen before - a grade reaching 100% participation…could 2026-27 be the year?

We intentionally celebrate participation because every Mulgrave family has a place in the bigger picture. Our community is wonderfully diverse, and every family's ability to give is different. 

Every gift, whether large or small, strengthens our community, inspires others, and helps create extraordinary opportunities for our students.

Thank you to every family, staff member, teacher, and friend who helped keep our Momentum going this year. Together, we're building something truly special and we can't wait to see what we'll accomplish next.

Allocation of Momentum Funds 2024-25

Each year, we disperse the Momentum funds raised in the previous school year to go above and beyond what is possible with tuition revenue alone. Here’s an update on what we were able to accomplish with funds raised via Momentum 2024-25.

Campaign contributions allowed us to transfer $450,000 to the Mulgrave Foundation. With an additional major gift of $250,000 from a generous donor, we were able to move a total of $700,000 to our Endowment which will support financial assistance efforts into perpetuity.

The $200,000 we raised for the Teacher Development Fund supported seven teachers who worked on their Masters and PhDs in addition to multiple professional development opportunities that spanned IB training, curriculum development, social-emotional learning strategy, and advanced pedagogical leadership training.

Our Head’s Priority Fund raised just over $750,000, enabling the funding of the following projects:

The bench shelters for the turf field have been a great addition for all our outdoor team sports programs. They protect our players from sun, rain, and wind, and act as a home base for teams during games. Our Varsity Girls Soccer and Junior Rugby teams have already taken advantage of them, and we hosted a rugby tournament where participating schools were able to stay out of the sun during their games. We look forward to using them more in the fall when we host the North Shore Derby and other soccer games!”

Head's Priority Fund Allocations

In addition to gifts designated for specific initiatives, the Head's Priority Fund will provide the remaining investment needed to make the following projects possible:

• $670,000 to fully fund the Junior School & Early Years Nature Playground

• $112,000 to build a new Recording Studio and complete upgrades to the Black Box Theatre

• $100,000 toward electric vehicle infrastructure and vehicles

• $50,000 to commission a mural for the underground parkade

• $30,000 to launch an AI pilot programme that supports innovation in teaching and learning

• $10,000 to welcome a keynote speaker in support of our Strategic Direction

• $10,000 to establish an MVP community grant-making initiative

Dear Mulgrave Community,

As we wrap up another remarkable school year, I find myself reflecting on what makes Mulgrave such an extraordinary place. Certainly, it is our students, our educators, and our families. But it is also the unwavering belief that together we can create opportunities that no one of us could create alone.

This year, our community demonstrated that belief in extraordinary ways.

More members of our community chose to support Mulgrave than ever before. That increase in participation is something we should all celebrate. Every gift - regardless of size - is a vote of confidence in our mission and in the young people who will shape the future. Collectively, those gifts are transformational.

Because of your generosity, we will fully fund a new Nature Playground for our Early Years and Junior School students, creating an inspiring outdoor environment where curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong connection with the natural world can flourish. We will also build a new recording studio, giving students exciting opportunities to create, collaborate, and tell their stories through music and digital media. Enhancements to our Black Box Theatre will strengthen another important creative space, supporting the performances, innovation, and confidence that define so much of a Mulgrave education.

We also listened carefully to our community as we considered our transportation goals. Rather than purchasing a single electric bus, we are exploring the option to invest in a small fleet of fully electric mini vans. This approach would advance our environmental sustainability commitments while giving us greater flexibility to meet the everyday needs of our students and programmes. With no specialised driver's licence required, this solution may well serve a wider range of experiences and opportunities across the school.

Yet, while these projects are exciting, they are not the greatest measure of your impact.

As we celebrated this year's graduating class, we were reminded that the true outcome of philanthropy is not measured in buildings or equipment, but in lives changed. If you have spent time exploring our graduates' stories at Find Your Fit, you will have seen young people pursuing paths as unique as they are inspiring. Their journeys are all different, but they share one important truth: their time at Mulgrave has forever expanded what they believe is possible. 

That transformation does not happen by chance. 

It happens because donors like you have invested in spaces like the Senior School Learning Hub, where students discover new ways to think, collaborate, and learn. It happens because volunteers have shared their wisdom through career panels and mentorship, helped students strengthen second-language skills, supported preparations for milestone moments like graduations and step-up ceremonies, and contributed countless acts of generosity that often happen quietly, behind the scenes. Individually, these moments matter. In concert, they create the exceptional educational experience that defines Mulgrave. 

Our graduates leave with the confidence to find their own fit in the world because thousands of people before them chose to invest in their success. Whether you gave financially, volunteered your expertise, opened doors for our students, or simply championed our mission, you have helped shape futures.

FA Strategic Direction Event

Your gifts change lives.
This reality was on display at our year end Strategic Direction 2025+ event, which brought to life how your generosity extends far beyond numbers, profoundly shaping the hearts, minds, and futures of our students. The centerpiece of the session was a moving panel discussion featuring a key teacher partner from Britannia Elementary, a representative from the Afghan Ismaili scholar programme, and a proud parent of a Mulgrave alumna. 

Together, they shared stories of transformation. From helping newcomers navigate educational culture shock to offering robust social-emotional support, the panelists described Mulgrave not just as a school, but as a dedicated village where our faculty and families work together to actively guide every child throughout their educational journey. The parent on our panel likened this support to building a house, creating a solid foundation of preparedness for university and critical life skills that students carry for years to come. She added that her child still returns to every single alumni event because Mulgrave is truly still her home.

Crucially, the conversation highlighted that the partnerships we share with Britannia and the Afghan Ismaili scholar programme are a powerful, reciprocal exchange. By welcoming students from diverse backgrounds, they bring pieces of their history and life context to Mulgrave. This expands our collective perspectives, giving all students the opportunity for unique learning and relationships.

The spirit of unity and gratitude in the room left an indelible mark on everyone present, perfectly capturing the essence of what your kindness creates. As one anonymous attendee noted:

What resonated with me most was the sense of community in the room. You could genuinely feel the care, generosity, and shared commitment to helping students thrive. We feel incredibly lucky and grateful that our children are growing and learning in such a warm, supportive, and caring community."

Our community’s support has built this extraordinary sanctuary of learning, trust, and growth. As we look to the future, the opportunity to keep these doors open and extend our village to more extraordinary children through our Financial Assistance programme remains a vital mission. Thank you for making this impact possible. 

After two years of fundraising and an incredible response from our community, work is underway on Mulgrave's new Nature Playground and Forest Regeneration project, with students set to return to an entirely transformed outdoor landscape this August.

Construction began during the final week of June and The Hill has quickly become a hive of activity. Earth movers are reshaping the landscape, new drainage channels are being created to improve water management, and the foundations for the new play areas are well underway. Best of all, the first of the handcrafted play structures have already arrived and are ready for installation.

One visible change is the selective removal of several trees that could not be saved. Rather than leaving the site, these trees will continue their story as bridges, pathway edging, climbing features and habitat logs, while other material will be chipped into mulch to restore nutrients to the forest floor.

More than a Playground

While this project will certainly create an exciting place to play, it is about so much more than that.

Once completed the work will restore the health of the forest while giving students richer opportunities to explore, imagine, and learn outdoors. New native planting, improved drainage, healthier soils and climate-resilient landscaping will help regenerate the woodland ecosystem, creating a lush, healthy and enriching environment for future generations of Mulgravians.

Children will experience a landscape designed to encourage adventurous play, creativity, problem solving and resilience, with climbing structures, swings, gathering spaces, and quiet places woven naturally into the forest. Every visit to The Hill will become an opportunity to learn from nature as well as play within it.

One of the most exciting additions made possible through last year's Head's Priority Fund has been a four-person LOOP Sound Booth. Located in the PYP Makerspace, it has quickly become a creative hub where students are discovering the power of storytelling, collaboration, and communication.

Over the past several months, the sound booth has supported a wide range of learning experiences. It has provided the perfect space for recording voiceovers for stop-motion animation projects and has become the home of the Junior School Pod Squad, a student-led podcast where learners share stories, reflect on classroom experiences, and celebrate their learning journeys.

Perhaps most rewarding has been watching students grow in confidence as they experiment with new ways to express their ideas.

LOOP HIghlights

Whether behind the microphone or working together to produce an episode, they are developing communication, creativity, and collaboration skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. The LOOP Sound Booth is also now the recording home of the Mulgrave Alumni Podcast, which recently celebrated its 16th episode. 

Our latest conversation features Jesse Peng (Class of 2011), whose career has been shaped by curiosity, bold pivots, and a willingness to embrace emerging opportunities. From tutoring mathematics while studying engineering at UBC to building a career spanning digital marketing, real estate investing, and collectible technology, Jesse shares thoughtful insights on innovation, entrepreneurship, and making confident career decisions in a rapidly changing world. Social Emotional Learning

A truly well-rounded Mulgrave education must provide students with the emotional vocabulary and tools to navigate their emotions, a goal pursued through our IPERMAH wellbeing framework and IB curriculum.

To support this mission, our Junior School recently adopted Open Parachute. Created by clinical psychologist Dr. Hayley Watson, this vital programme uses documentary-style videos of authentic peer voices to normalise struggles and foster safe classroom spaces. Through 20 to 45-minute lessons, students engage with five research-based themes: Self-Reflection, Relationship Building, Respectful Actions, Support Strategies, and Wellbeing. These themes are developmentally appropriate across Kindergarten to Grade 5 and build in complexity as students grow.

The programme is anchored by the ‘Being Well Model’ (Feel, Pause, Think, and Act), which serves as a common framework for helping students navigate day-to-day challenges and choose respectful responses instead of reacting instinctively to stress. While this model provides the foundation and shared language of the programme, students also develop a broader set of social-emotional skills through lessons, discussions, and real-world application.

The results have been inspiring: data and teacher observations show a noticeable increase in healthy coping language, with students demonstrating the independence to resolve their own playground disputes. Furthermore, the programme unites the classroom and home by providing video-based wellness modules and resources specifically for parents and guardians.

Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Head’s Priority Fund, Mulgrave was able to launch an exciting new partnership with the UBC Sauder School of Business, providing selected Grade 10 and 11 students with an immersive introduction to artificial intelligence in business. Students applied to participate in a series of four two-hour workshops led by Timothy Yeung, Senior Director of Product Management for AI at Uberall and an instructor at UBC Sauder. With AI as a thought partner, students developed brief business plans and presentations for ideas ranging from school coffee shops to energy bars. Along the way, they explored how AI is reshaping industries and future careers, strengthened their ability to evaluate its output critically, and learned where human creativity, judgment, and decision-making remain essential. 

Donor support also extended the impact of this partnership to our faculty. In a dedicated workshop, Tim helped teachers examine how AI is transforming fields ranging from technology and healthcare to engineering, film, and the humanities.

He also explored how post-secondary education is responding and what universities may increasingly value in future graduates. Faculty considered the implications for their own subjects and explored practical approaches to human-AI collaboration, thoughtful prompting, critical evaluation, and maintaining human judgment at the centre of learning. 

These experiences gave students and teachers valuable access to current industry and university perspectives while helping Mulgrave build a thoughtful, future-focused approach to AI education. They have also helped shape our future planning for increasing AI literacy among both students and staff. We are deeply grateful to our Head’s Priority donors for making opportunities like these possible and for helping our community prepare students not simply to use emerging technologies, but to shape them with creativity, responsibility, and purpose.

It was an absolutely unforgettable Gala evening in May and our overwhelming feeling is one of deep gratitude for you. From the exciting live and silent auctions to the exhilarating games and the selfless contributions in our paddle raise, our families’ generosity was at the heart of our success.

Every single item and every dollar donated created an opportunity for our families to engage, connect, and invest back into our students. That collective participation generated an unbelievable energy, and the results speak for themselves: Thanks to your belief in our mission, the evening raised a grand total of over $400,000! Most excitingly, these funds provide critical fuel for our Momentum Fund. This success ensures we can keep moving forward on impact projects without hesitation. We are also excited to introduce a new signature community event that combines fun, connection, and philanthropy: the return of Mulgrave’s Golf Tournament. It will be next year’s premier fun- and fund-raising event, bringing together parents, alumni, and friends of the school for a day on the course in support of our students. The day will culminate in an evening of wine tasting, food, and entertainment, creating an opportunity for those who don't golf to join in the celebration and ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.
